On Friday, January 5, FBLI members gathered at Shully’s Watermark in Thiensville to celebrate the conclusion of 2017. After enjoying an amazing meal by the Shully family, guests were treated to a video recap of 2017 events compiled by 3-MOD. Then, guests enjoyed hearing insights from Craig Culver, the founder of Culver’s Franchise, who was the evening’s featured speaker.
Craig talked about growing up watching his father, George, run an A&W restaurant and then a resort by Devil’s Lake. He said he never intended to go into his father’s family business so he went to UW-Oshkosh and earned a Biology degree. However, upon graduating he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. He did a brief management stint at McDonalds before convincing his dad to re-buy the A&W restaurant he had once owned, and the two of them painted it white and blue, and named it Culver’s. Craig said it took a couple of years for the business to make money but eventually it did and Craig decided to franchise it, and the rest is, shall we say, history. Today there are more than 600 Culver’s restaurants in 24 states.
Thanks to everyone who attended this wonderful evening. We are looking forward to hosting more fun and exciting events in 2018.
